Coventry police detail DUI arrest of Pawtucket officer, previously acquitted of shooting teen

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Coventry Police Department shared information regarding the arrest of a Pawtucket police officer, who was previously acquitted of shooting a teenager, on multiple charges including DUI.
Police said that on Sept. 2, just after 11 p.m., an officer was patrolling at the intersection of Main Street and Sandy Bottom Road when they heard tires screeching and loud ending revving.
The officer then looked towards the intersection where they said they saw a dark colored pickup truck make a turn at a high rate of speed, almost causing the truck to leave the roadway. The truck continued through moderate traffic until the officer was able to stop it.
When the officer approached the truck , they said they saw Daniel Dolan, 40, in the driver’s seat who, when asked for his license and registration, responded, “You know who I am.”
When asked why he was driving erratically, Dolan allegedly told the officer he was just trying to get home. When asked if he had been drinking, Dolan allegedly told the officer he hadn’t been.
The officer conducting the traffic stop on Dolan said they observed him having bloodshot eyes and slow, slurred speech. There were also two other people in the car.
Dolan also allegedly said he would take a chemical test when asked by police, but when the test was being administered, the officer said he became agitated and failed numerous times.
After failing the sobriety tests, Dolan was placed under arrest. During questioning at the Coventry Police Department, officers said Dolan made explicit and aggressive comments to officers while also clenching his fists and standing up.
When asked in the police department to submit to a breathalyzer test, authorities said Dolan refused. He further shouted swears at officers as his booking photo was being taken. He was later removed from his holding cell after allegedly continuing to make threats to officers.
Dolan is facing charges of threats to public officials, DUI — B.A.C. unknown, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a chemical test and lane violations.
He is set to appear in court later this month.
