Coventry police investigate false report of an active shooter at a school

Coventry police are investigating after a call came in about an active shooter on the Western Coventry Elementary School’s campus Friday morning.

Police responded to the school’s call at 11:35 a.m. school officials said they received a robotic message saying there was an active shooter on campus. The school initiated lockdown procedures.

Officials determined there was no active shooter on campus and the number of the caller was from the Hamilton College in New York.

The college was investigating a report of an active shooter on their campus and Western Coventry Elementary was listed as part of the notification process. It was later determined there was no active shooter on the Hamilton College’s campus.  

Police and school officials are investigating what lead to the false notification.
