Coventry police investigating animal abuse: dog found in cooler bag

COVENTRY, R.I (WLNE) – Coventry Police are investigating an animal cruelty case after a small dog was found in a cooler bag on January 11.

Coventry Police along with Animal Control responded to Centre of New England Blvd in the area of Walmart for a dog found in a soft cooler bag at 7:20 PM.

Police say the dog was a female Chihuahua, and she was found unresponsive, but breathing.

The dog was transported immediately to an area animal hospital for treatment, but it was determined that the she had to be humanely euthanized due to her condition.

Coventry police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or person that may be involved.

Police say the dog may have been left in this location within 24 hours of being found.

The dog has brown hair, approximately 3 to 7 years old, and 8 to 10 pounds.

No collar, tags, or microchip were found.
