WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – In an announcement today, COX Communications will be donating $35,000 in financial support to assist with technology equipment for low-income students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

$25,000 will be distributed to the Rhode Island Department of Education and $10,000 to the Community College of Rhode Island. Both institutions are looking to enable distance learning programs for students completing work in remote environments.

“While the corona pandemic has shifted our landscapes dramatically, Cox is committed to working with our local leaders to ensure that RIDE and CCRI continue to provide low-income students with the tools they need to keep their education on track,” said Jay Allbaugh, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications Northeast. “We are proud to work with our partners in the state to ensure our students and educational leaders emerge from this epidemic stronger than ever.”

The donation is made on behalf of Cox Communications, Cox Business, and Cox Media as they have committed in helping Rhode Island education institutions need to deliver material in a distance learning environment.
