Cranston man arrested for 2nd OUI and gun charges

WEST SPRINGFIELD, M.A. – A Rhode Island man has been arrested for a 2nd OUI and gun charges over the weekend.

At approximately, 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3rd 2016,  what began as a crash investigation in West Springfield ended with the arrest of a man for OUI and several gun charges.

Massachusetts State Trooper Kurt D’Angelo, of the Springfield Barracks, was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Route 91 North in West Springfield. 

Upon arrival, Trooper D’Angelo surmised that the driver of a 2000 Mazda, identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Beard, of Cranston, had crashed into the median barrier. 

Beard was being helped at the scene by members of the East Hampton Fire Department, who happened to be coming back from a call at the time. 

Authorities said after following a subsequent investigation, Trooper D’Angelo arrested Beard for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (2nd Offense) and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. 

Trooper D’Angelo also located a loaded, .40 caliber Ruger SR40c handgun inside the vehicle. 

Beard was then additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID card.

According to police, Beard was booked at the State Police barracks in Springfield where he was held on $2,500.00 bail pending his arraignment in Springfield District Court on Tuesday.
