Cranston mayor ‘delighted’ Topgolf decided to change name of venue

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Ken Hopkins said Friday he’s “delighted” that Topgolf decided to change the Cranston location’s name from “Topgolf Providence” to “Topgolf Rhode Island.”
“This is not a slight against Providence,” said Hopkins. “Providence now has great leadership in Mayor Smiley who is moving that city in the right direction.”
The Republican said that the rebranding sends a message to Cranston and Rhode Island that Topgolf “cares about our residents.” He said the name change was “important” to Cranston because it gives the city more recognition.
“With this gesture, Topgolf has demonstrated one of the reasons why we are so excited that they are coming to Cranston,” said Hopkins. “We are looking forward to continuing to work with them as they become the premier entertainment destination in the region.”
Earlier this week, Hopkins was disappointed that Topgolf officials branded the site as “Topgolf Providence.”
