Cranston Mayor Fung announces run for re-election

By News Staff

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung has announced that he will run for re-election.

Fung, who was elected mayor in 2009, made the announcement at his birthday fundraiser Thursday night at the Cranston Country Club.

Despite some recent criticism, including a scathing State Police investigation into the ticket-gate scandal, Fung told the crowd of republican leaders that he is the best man for the job.

"There’s only one job, ladies and gentlemen, one job that I want in 2016, and that is to continue to be the mayor of this great city of Cranston. Your mayor, Alan Fung," he said at the podium.

Democrat City Councilor Michael Sepe has already announced his plans to run against Fung in 2016.
