The Chief of the Cranston Police is being temporarily removed from duty after a parking scandal in the city.

Chief Marco Palumbo will be temporarily replaced by Captain Kevin Barry of the Rhode Island State Police while the state police investigate the matter. Palumbo will be placed on paid leave.

Two city councilors say police targeted their districts with parking tickets after they chose not to support a proposed police contract in November.

On Thursday Cranston Mayor Allan Fung called the State Police in to investigate as well as dismissed the nearly 130 parking tickets that were issued offering refund to those who paid. Captain Ben Barney of the State Police will take over the investigation.
