Cranston police investigate fatal accident

Cranston police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident Sunday morning.

20 year old John Mota of West Warwick was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident after 33 year old Robert D’Agostino’s car, traveling South, hit Mota while attempting to cross Route 295.

Mota and his brother Christopher Ovallis, 22, of Providence parked on the breakdown lane of Route 295 South and walked across toward the high speed lane before Mota was hit.

D’Agostino was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Attorney General’s office and the Rhode Island State Police Scituate Barracks Collision Reconstruction Unit are also assisting in the investigation.
