Cranston police investigating accident involving police cruiser

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police investigated a car accident involving a police cruiser that took place early Friday morning.

Police responded to the scene at Park Avenue and Woodbine Street around 12:20 a.m. Friday.

According to Cranston police, an officer was approaching the intersection of Park Avenue and Woodbine Street when 23-year-old Derrick In, of Fall River, did not stop and sped out into the roadway, which caused the police cruiser to crash with the passenger side of In’s car.

Police say the officer did not have an opportunity to stop or react. Both cars involved had heavy front end damage.

The 23-year-old was charged with Driving after Suspension-2nd Offense along with traffic summonses for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Evidence of Insurance and Obedience to Stop Sign.
