CRANSTON, R.I (WLNE) – Cranston police are investigating a fatal accident that happened Friday morning.

The department confirmed a woman died after behind struck by a vehicle on Cranston Street. The woman has been identified as 87-year-old Eva Robinson of Cranston.

Witnesses tell ABC 6 the woman was in the crosswalk and did have the walk sign, but was unable to make it all the way across the street before the light switched.

Police say the driver of the truck and the corporation he works for are cooperating. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police are now reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby auto body shop as part of their continued investigation.

Neighbors in the area say accidents happen on Cranston Street all the time, mostly due to speeding.
