CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Cranston Police officers are investigating a home invasion along the 200 block of Pontiac Avenue.

According to police, the home invasion was reported at 6:10 p.m. on Friday. Police have determined this was not a random crime and the location was of specific interest.

Police say at least two suspects wearing masks forced entry to the occupied home. They did extensive damage to the utility services resulting in the officers having to evacuate the home, so it did not cause an explosion or fire.

A person of interest was stopped on the Providence/Cranston line by the Providence Police and has been taken into custody, according to Major Todd Patalano.

Police are now working on obtaining a search warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.
