Cranston school teacher contract gets full committee support, poised for final approval by city council
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Two school contracts were unanimously approved by the Cranston Finance Committee Monday night.
During an at times tense meeting, the finance committee voted to approve the contracts for Cranston teachers.
The meeting came after Mayor Ken Hopkins initially raised concerns about the contracts.
During the meeting Monday, the mayor’s Chief of Staff Tony Moretti said after discussing with school leaders they were in support of the contracts.
Some at the meeting, including members of the school committee and teachers’ union, criticized the mayor and other Republican members for politicizing the matter.
The contracts now go to go to the full council and unanimous approval is expected.
