Crews evacuate home during East Providence fire

Multiple fire departments responding to a Sunday afternoon fire in East Providence.

The fire broke out just after three in the afternoon on Dunbar Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the basement of the home.

At one point they got worried the home was in danger of collapsing, so they ordered all firefighters out of the home.

The homeowner is currently renting out the property and noticed a commotion from his home right down the street.

“Smoke was coming out of bottom of windows,” said Gary Costa, “And there's a man who lives in the basement, so I told firefighters to break the other window in fear he was still inside.”

Luckily no one was home at the time. There's no word on what caused the fire.
