Fire Badly Damages Apartments in New Bedford

New Bedford, MA (WLNE) – Firefighters said about 10-13 people were affected by an apartment fire in New Bedford on Tuesday.

The fire was in a 3-story residential building on Sycamore Street.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy fire coming from the second floor and up through the roof. The fire extended into an attic area. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading, but they said the building has extensive damage. Firefighters were able to get everyone out of the building. No one was hurt.  Firefighters rescued a dog and some pet birds.

The building is not a total loss. However, firefighters said 10-13 people who live in the building have been displaced. Red Cross has been called in to help those affected.
