Crews extinguish car, brush fire in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Crews extinguished a car fire in Johnston Tuesday evening

The van was caught on video going up in flames on 295 North in Johnston around 6:30 p.m.

The Johnston Fire Department said after seeing smoke come from the vehicle, the driver pulled over before the fire spread throughout the van. Fire officials said everyone in the car was able to safely escape.

Due to high winds, the fire spread alongside of the highway which caused a brush fire. According to the Fire Department, crews were on scene fighting the flames for about 45 minutes.

Fire officials believe the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information when it becomes available.
