Missing father and son rafters found safe

A father and son who who went missing after embarking out on a plastic raft from Taylor's Landing in South Kingstown have been found safe.

Police say the 12-year-old Logan Pierce and his 49-year-old father Darin Pierce were dropped off with the raft around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday intending to travel three miles down the Chipuxet River to Warden Pond. There they were set to be picked up at 4 p.m.

At 4 p.m. it was discovered the pair never made it to Worden's Pond and police were called in to search for the two. The coast guard, state and local police and fire, and the environmental police assisted in the search.

At 9 p.m. on Sunday the inflatable raft which was equipt with two electric motors was found along the shore of the river. The searched continued to about 1 a.m. on Monday morning and then it was suspended until 6 a.m.

Hours after the search resumed the South Kingstown Fire and Rescue Department found the father and son along the shore. The two were slightly dehydrated but appeared to be in good health.
