Crowd turning East Providence City Hall ‘blue’ for colon cancer awareness

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A gathering to raise awareness for colon cancer screenings is planned for Thursday night at East Providence City Hall.

Organizers with the Brown Medicine Endoscopy Center urge participants to wear all blue and bring a flashlight or use their phone with flashlight capabilities.

The event is in honor of “Go Blue” for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Organizers hope the event will motivate people to get tested regularly for screenings.

“People are afraid to come for medical care, and what we’re trying to make people aware of is that colorectal cancer is a killer is the third most common cause of cancer in men and women,” said Dr. Harlan Rich.

The gathering will take place at City Hall Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
