Cumberland crash claims 2 lives

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Cumberland Police Department said Monday that two are dead after a car crash.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. in the area of Pine Swamp and Diamond Hill Road.

A Volkswagen Jetta sedan and a Ford Explorer SUV were involved and sustained major damage.

Police said they determined one person from each vehicle had died.

One victim is being identified as a 25-year-old female. Her name was not immediately released.

Police said they are still working to notify the other person’s family.

The road has since been opened following accident reconstruction.

The cause of the crash was not immediately released as the investigation remains ongoing.
