Cumberland man sentenced for possessing child pornography

United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. (WLNE)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said a Cumberland man in possession of child porn was sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison today.

Cunha said Patrick Newton, 27, was arrested in March of last year after police traced an IP address and email involved in sharing the material to his Cumberland home.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children later provided authorities with information that Newton was accessing child pornography.

A court executed search of his home found electronic media storage devices that contained both pictures and videos of child pornography.

Newton pleaded guilty in October last year and was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release.
