CVS Health Charity Classic news release…
WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island (June 3, 2015) – CVS Health Charity Classic co-hosts Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon announced the addition of four more PGA TOUR professionals to the field: Webb Simpson, Harris English, Russell Henley and Erik Compton. These top-tier players will be part of a field of 20 professional golfers who will compete in the June 28-30 charity golf tournament at Rhode Island Country Club.
A top player on the PGA TOUR, Simpson is a four-time TOUR winner including the 2012 U.S. Open Championship. He currently sits at 34th in the FedExCup standings and is ranked 40th in the Official World Golf rankings. Simpson is gracing the greens for the first time at the Charity Classic, which drives millions of dollars to area nonprofits.
Another rising star, English is a two-time PGA TOUR winner, including a win at the 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba and 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic, and currently ranks 37th in the FedExCup standings. He is back for his second appearance at the tournament. Henley, who will be making his third consecutive appearance at the CVS Health Charity Classic, has also taken the PGA TOUR by storm posting two wins since turning pro in 2011. He currently holds the 41st position in the FedExCup standings.
Compton holds the distinction of being the only professional golfer in the world to compete with a transplanted heart. He is a regular on the PGA TOUR, finishing 2nd in the 2014 U.S. Open Championship and has played on both the U.S. Walker Cup and Palmer Cup teams. This will be his second time playing the Charity Classic.
