PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — With the dangerously cold temperatures ahead of the weekend, the city of Providence is reminding residents that there are emergency shelters available for those experiencing homelessness.

The shelters that will be open and accepting people on Friday are Crossroads Rhode Island at 160 Broad St., Providence Rescue Mission at 627 Cranston St., Emmanuel House at 239 Public St., and Cranston Street Armory at 310 Cranston St.

The Providence Emergency Management Agency is urging residents to check on family, the elderly, or those who may need help to make sure they’re safe.

Anyone who is in need of overnight shelter from the cold can call the United Way at 211.
