Dartmouth PD: Shoplifting Investigation Led to Drug Trafficking Suspect

Police said they noticed one shoplifting suspect throw something behind some vending machines.

Dartmouth, MA (WLNE) – Dartmouth Police said a shoplifting complaint at Walmart led them to a drug trafficking suspect.

Police said they responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart on Friday afternoon. As police were investigating, Officer Craig Cote said he noticed one of the shoplifting suspects throw something behind some vending machines. Dartmouth Police identified that suspect as 35-year-old Daniel Tavares of Fall River.

Police searched the area behind the vending machines and said they found several plastic bags that contained tablets of suspected Oxycodone.

Tavares was arrested and charged with trafficking Oxycodone and shoplifting (3rd offense).

Police said the Oxycodone tablets weighed a total of 25 grams. Police also seized $1,777 in cash from the suspect.
