DCYF discloses death of 7-month-old infant

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Department of Children, Youth and Families announced the fatality of a seven-month-old infant Saturday morning.

The fatality occurred on June 2 and does not appear to be the result of maltreatment, Public Information Officer Damaris Teixeira said.

Teixeira added that the child’s family was involved with the department at the time of death, but the child was not department custody.

The child’s cause of death wasn’t immediately known and the Office of the Child Advocate has been notified.

“Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information,” Teixeira said.
