DCYF discloses death of 9-year-old from Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families on Friday disclosed the death of a 9-year-old from Providence.
Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the child died on May 18.
Teixeira said that while DCYF had previous involvement with the family, the agency didn’t have custody of the child at the time of the death.
The child’s cause of death wasn’t immediately known. The Office of the Child Advocate has been notified.
Teixeira said because of “confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.”
