PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Department of Children Youth and Families is investigating a pair of possible child abuse cases.

The first case, DCYF said, involves a 16-month-old female child from Providence who was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on April 2nd. The second involves a 10-year-old Cranston boy admitted to Hasbro on March 31st.

In both cases, DCYF confirmed through investigation that the children’s condition is likely the result of maltreatment. There has been no prior DCYF involvement with the families in either case.

The Office of the Child Advocate has been notified of both reports, and both incidents are under investigation.

No further information is available at this time.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware any incidents. Anyone with information on known or suspected cases of child abuse is urged to contact DCYF at 1-800-RI-CHILD.
