Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open Underway Without Defending Champion Isner

The first day of competition at the International Hall of Fame in Newport is in the books. Defending Champion John Isner had to drop out of the competition after playing in a six-and-a-half hour semifinal at Wimbledon, losing to eventual runner up Kevin Anderson.

The Hall of Fame says it always stays prepared for potential dropouts, especially scheduling the open so close to Wimbledon.

As the tennis world focused on the grass courts of Wimbledon last week, the focus now turns to the grass courts in Newport.

American Denis Kudla advanced easily in his first match of the tournament, sweeping Ruben Bemelmans.

The tournament continues all week, with the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and doubles championship taking place on Saturday, and the singles final set for Sunday.
