Demonstrators take to Rhode Island State House demanding justice for Ohio teen
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – A rally was held Thursday night in Providence demanding justice for a black teenage girl shot and killed by police in Columbus, Ohio.
Ma’Khia Bryant, 16, was killed in Columbus by police on Tuesday.
Police Body camera was released Wednesday in the fatal police shooting of Bryant. The footage shows her charging at two people with a knife before a police officer shot and killed her.
The footage showed a chaotic scene that happened within minutes of the verdict in George Floyd’s killing and ignited outrage by many over the continued use of lethal force by police in Columbus and the U.S.
Demonstrators from Black Lives Matter Rhode Island say it’s time to hold the officer who pulled the trigger accountable.
A similar rally was held at the state house earlier in April to honor Adam Toledo, 13, who was shot and killed by police in Chicago.
Toledo did have a gun on him but body camera footage shows Toledo dropping the weapon moments before the Chicago officer shot and killed him.
