PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Rhode Island Department of Health employee, who was charged with child pornography last week, has died.

In a letter to Department of Health employees, Dr. James McDonald wrote that Jeffrey Hill unexpectedly passed away. His cause of death wasn’t immediately known. He was 46 years old.

McDonald said Hill worked with the department for nine years and was the head of the violence and injury prevention program.

Rhode Island State Police said on June 7 that they arrested the 46-year-old on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of child erotica prohibited.

After investigating, state police and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force learned that child pornography was being uploaded to an email server connected to his Wakefield home. They later discovered that he was using that email account.

Hill faced a Wakefield District Court judge the same day he was arrested, and was released after posting bail. He was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors and to have restricted internet access.
