PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Design plans for Rhode Island’s first food hall were approved by Providence’s Capital Center Commission on Wednesday.

The food hall is set to open at Union Station in the spring of next year.

With $23.5 million invested by the Marsella family, the station’s newest additions will include an outdoor plaza and a standalone restaurant.

The Marsella Development Corporation said the redeveloped space will “deliver a diverse, inclusive, and approachable hospitality experience that reflects the many cultural influences in Rhode Island, presented by well-known local culinary talent and up-and-comers, in a lively and sophisticated setting.”

Additional details on the next phase of the project are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
