Two bridges on the border of Cumberland and Lincoln are now closed for approximately 6 weeks due to rehab work.

The Albion bridges that carry School Street in Lincoln over the Blackstone River to Albion Road in Cumberland closed on Monday to be sealed, repaved, and striped.

The roadways will also be resurfaced.

The Albion bridges work is part of a nearly $3 million project to preserve 10 bridges across the state.

RIDOT says the bridges will be closed for approximately 6 weeks, which would bring the opening to about mid-August.

Signed detours ask drivers to use Albion Road, Route 116 and Old River Road to bypass the closure. Detour maps are available at www.dot.ri.gov/detourmaps.

Pedestrians and bikers will not be able to enter, exit or park at the School Street entrance of the Blackstone River Bikeway while the bridges are under construction. The bikeway itself will remain open except for the possibility of brief closures on weekdays as construction vehicles cross between worksites.
