PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)  A New York real estate developer plans to meet with Providence officials to discuss plans for a 46 story skyscraper that has received strong opposition from community groups.

Jason Fane is scheduled to attend a public hearing Monday evening on Fane’s proposed Hope Point Tower.

The Ordinances Committee previously denied recommending a zoning change that would have exempted the tower from a height limit.

Committee chairman Terrence Hassett said in a news release that “the Council has a fiduciary responsibility to allow the developer a chance to testify before this body.”

Fane wrote in an op_ed piece in the Providence Journal that the tower “would provide many exceptional benefits to Providence and Rhode Island housing, taxes, jobs and a positive impact on the economy.”
