Coast Guard personnel from New Bedford, Mass., and East Providence, R.I., are working with Frank Corp. Environmental Services to clean up approximately 50-gallons of diesel fuel which spilled from a fishing vessel in New Bedford Thursday evening.
Coast Guardsmen from Marine Safety Detachment New Bedford were called to Cozy Cove Marina in Fairhaven, Mass., when a sheen there was reported to Sector Southeastern New England at about 7:30 p.m., Thursday.
The diesel was found to be leaking from the fuel vents of a fishing vessel with an overfilled fuel tank moored near the Eastern Fisheries facility in New Bedford.
Personnel from Frank Corp. Environmental Services have been cleaning the spill since the company was contracted Thursday night.
Also assisting with the cleanup efforts are local police and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
