District attorney says significant progress made in investigation into crash that killed UMass Dartmouth student

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — More than a month after a UMass Dartmouth student was hit by a car and killed while walking on campus, an investigation is still ongoing.

Freshman student Frankie Petillo Jr. was hit by a car on Ring Road on April 6.

His death led to the school announcing safety upgrades, including speed bumps and new signage.

Appearing at an event on campus Tuesday, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said his office has made significant progress over the past six weeks and is now waiting on final reports from an accident reconstruction unit.

Once that’s in, the district attorney’s office will make a final decision on whether or not any criminal charges are warranted.
