District Attorney’s office identifies one man found dead by New Bedford hurricane barrier
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the identity of one of two men who were found dead near a hurricane barrier.
According to officials, on Sunday, New Bedford police and EMS responded to the access road near the barrier at 177 Gifford St. just before 7:30 p.m.
First responders said they found two men lying on the ground within approximately 20 feet from each other.
Also near the two men, was a shopping cart full of bags and clothes along with a tote containing various other items and a fishing pole.
The first man was pronounced dead on arrival by EMS. Notification of next of kin is ongoing at this time, officials said.
The second man, identified as 39-year-old Jose Arroyo, of New Bedford was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The situation remains under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Officials said no foul play is suspected.
