Dog killed, believed to be thrown from car

An investigation is underway after a dog was run over on a Providence highway.

The RISPCA thinks that someone threw the animal from a car window and now they’re asking for your help to find the person responsible.

"Providence police received multiple phone calls regarding a dog that was either thrown from a vehicle or jumped from a vehicle,” said RISPCA Animal Cruelty investigator Joe Warzycha.

It happened Thursday afternoon on Route 10 near Westminster Street. The car was described by witnesses to be a grey or silver SUV.

Warzycha says he’s treating this as a criminal case.

"I would like to think that if somebody’s dog jumped from their vehicle they would have contacted authorities they would have pulled over. I’m getting no indication that it’s anything other than a dog being thrown from a vehicle,” said Warzycha.

The dog obviously was in very bad shape, but officials believe it was some type of Beagle Jack Russell mix.

"When you think you’ve seen the worst there’s always something that comes up that makes you wonder where the humanity is,” said Warzycha.

The RISPCA is offering up a $500 reward for any information leading to a criminal conviction.
