Changes in the Works for Atwells Avenue
Tuesday, members of the Federal Hill Commerce Association welcomed the RI DOT to a meeting on safety on Atwells Avenue in Providence.
The meetings were scheduled after several pedestrian hit and run accidents, including one that left Providence City Councilman Terrence Hassett with serious injuries.
At Tuesday's meeting, it was announced that part of a $56,000 grant by the DOT would help pay for putting extra officers in the area for speeding and DUI enforcement. The grant is part of the Operation Blue Riptide program.
