Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI following Coventry crash

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) –Coventry Police arrested a West Kingston man after a crash that left one juvenile and several animals injured Saturday night. 

Police responded to the area of 2232 Plainfield Pike around 11:25 p.m. Saturday for reports of a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.

Officers on scene located a crash between a five-ton military type truck and a pickup truck towing a trailer containing four horses and a goat.

Police said a juvenile passenger traveling in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries, and that at least some of the animals were evaluated for injuries as well.

Both vehicles were damaged extensively and were towed from the scene.

Police said the driver of the military type vehicle, identified as Matthew Wright, 35, of West Kingston, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

The accident is under investigation.
