Fall River Police have arrested a man after a fatal pedestrian accident late Friday night.

Police were dispatched to the area of 601 Laurel Street around 10 p.m. after reports of a man lying in the road.

Upon arriving, police found the male victim wedged underneath a white Toyota Corolla. The victim was freed with the help of the Fall River Fire Department but was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.

Police say witnesses found the male in the roadway and tried calling for help before the victim was struck by the white Toyota Corolla.

Investigation revealed that a first vehicle, described as a black Honda Civic, initially struck the victim before fleeing the scene. The operator, identified as 23-year-old Bryan DeSousa of Fall River, then returned to the scene after the second accident.

DeSousa was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene Causing Personal Injury or Death. The operator of the Toyota Corolla has not been charged at this time.

The identity of the victim, a 47-year-old male, has not been released.

The incident is still under investigation.
