Driver evacuated by med-flight following crash in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)- The driver involved in a crash in Newport on Wednesday morning was taken to Rhode Island Hospital via helicopter, police said.

Newport police and fire responded to the scene at Ocean Avenue near Green Bridge at around 7:45 a.m.

Crews at the scene were able to remove the 25-year old man from the vehicle. He was then flown the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Officials said that the man was the only person involved in the crash.

An ABC6 crew at the scene said that crews set up a perimeter at the crash site.

The driver’s car ended up on the rocks on the seawall by the street.

Marine units are in the water on jet skis.
