Driver transported by helicopter from Richmond crash scene

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) – A Richmond man was medevacked following a single car accident Sunday morning in Richmond.

Richmond Police, Hope Valley Fire Department and Hope Valley Ambulance responded to the area of Nooseneck Hill Road around 9:30 a.m. for reports of a vehicle colliding with a telephone pole.

First responders located the vehicle that had struck the pole and broke it into three pieces. The vehicle had fallen power lines on its roof.

Richmond Police said National Grid rerouted the power from the area before Hope Valley Fire used the jaws of life to extract the driver from the vehicle.

A Life Star transport helicopter was called and the victim, identified as Jeffery Fortin, 43, of Richmond, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said crews are still on scene attempting to restore power to the area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Police said alcohol was not a factor.
