John Picerne accepting an award Wednesday on behalf of his Our Family for Families First Foundation, which was selected as “The People's Choice Winner” in the Joining Forces Community Challenge. Joining Forces is a national initiative started nearly a year ago by first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to support military families.
The foundation's scholarship program has provided $3.5 million in awards to the children and spouses of active duty service members since 2006.
