STOUGHTON, Mass. (WLNE)- An elderly woman has died as the result of an overnight fire in Stoughton.

Firefighters reported to Grove St. after reports of a fire at around 3:40 a.m.

Initial reports said that there were two people trapped inside the burning home, according to assistant fire chief Michael Carroll.

However, it was only one 93-year-old woman who was trapped inside.

When rescue officials arrived on the scene, they were able to get the woman out of the house and have her transported to a local hospital where she later died.

Carroll says that the woman likely died from smoke inhalation.

The woman has yet to be identified.

The Stoughton Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
