NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – One man was sent to the hospital after a fire broke out at a Narragansett home early Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a home on Knowlesway just before 5 a.m. after a report of a house fire.

Fire Chief Scott Partington said upon arrival, crews found heavy fire “venting” out of the first floor windows in the front of the home.

A resident in the home was able to safely escape, but sustained inhalation burns and second degree burns to his hands. He was taken to South County Hospital and later transported to Rhode Island Hospital for further treatment.

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

Chief Partington said that the home sustained extreme damage.

Both local and state Fire Marshals remained on scene throughout the weekend to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
