Early Runs Lead Bisons Past PawSox

Pawtucket Red Sox Press Release

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo scored seven times in the first five innings against Pawtucket starter Jeremy Kehrt, five coming with two outs in an inning, and the Bisons topped the PawSox, 7-4, Friday night at Coca-Cola Field in the second of a four-game series.

Third-baseman Juan Francisco collected three hits and three RBI against Kehrt (0-1) as Buffalo scored two runs in the first, three in the second and two more in the fifth inning. The teams have split the first two games of the series, with each game ending in a 7-4 final score.

Pawtucket got four hits from leadoff hitter Brock Holt, including a solo home run to begin the game that gave the PawSox their only lead of the night. Francisco's RBI single and Matt Tuiasosopo's sac fly in the bottom of the inning put the Bisons in front 2-1.

Buffalo struck for three two-out runs in the second against Kehrt on Anthony Gose's run-scoring double and Francisco's wall-scraping two-run triple to center that made the score 5-1. Pawtucket struck back with a pair of runs in the third on RBI hits from Alex Hassan (single) and Justin Henry (triple).

Francisco's double in the bottom of the fifth began Buffalo's final run-scoring rally of the night. Two outs later Kevin Pillar doubled him home, then Andy LaRoche's RBI single made the score 7-3.

Bisons starter Kyle Drabek (1-0) allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings to earn the win. Relievers Bobby Korecky and Ryan Tepera combined to finish the win over the final four innings, with Tepera allowing only an unearned run in the ninth.

Kehrt allowed seven runs on ten hits and two walks in his five innings of work. Rich Hill and Brayan Villarreal combined to work the final three innings out of the bullpen and did not allow a run while only permitting one hit. Holt went 4-for-5 and is now 7-for-10 at the plate in the series.

Game three of the series is slated for a 1:05 pm first pitch on Saturday afternoon. Southpaw Chris Hernandez (0-0, 0.00) will get the ball for manager Kevin Boles, while righty Liam Hendriks (1-0, 0.00) is expected to start for the Bisons.
