East Beach in New Bedford reopens for swimming

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Health Department has reopened East Beach for swimming after it was closed Thursday due to poor water quality.

Interim Public Information Officer Holly Huntoon said that water sampling has shown that the water is now safe for swimming.

She added that water quality tests are conducted by the city’s Municipal Marine Laboratory and follow Massachusetts Department of Public Health standards.
