UPDATE: East Greenwich officer charged with domestic violence resigns

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The East Greenwich police officer arrested Saturday on multiple domestic violence charges has resigned from the department.

East Greenwich Police confirmed 25-year-old Mark Edmonds Jr. resigned over the phone with Chief Stephen Brown on Tuesday before sending in an official letter of resignation  Thursday.

Edmonds was arrested Saturday by Pawtucket Police after they say he assaulted the mother of his child on numerous occasions dating back to September. 

Edmonds allegedly pulled a gun on the woman multiple times, threatening to kill her as well as himself. 

Police also said he recently assaulted the victim by strangulation. That’s when she contacted police. 

Edmonds was arraigned Thursday morning in Providence District Court and was released on personal recognizance

He will appear in Providence Superior Court at a later date to be prosecuted.
