EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The City of East Providence announced a request for qualifications for the Owner’s Project Manager Services towards the development of a new community center.

The 62,000 square foot space will be built behind the Robert Rock Senior Center on Waterman Ave.

It will have a lobby area, gymnasium, pool, theater, and an office space on two floors.

The building will serve as a recreational and public safety wellness center to build community with families and members of the city’s police and fire departments.

“We are committed to providing our residents with a space to serve as a community wellness center, while also providing our public safety personnel with a place to conduct planning and training and community outreach programs such as National Night Out, R.A.D. Women Physical Defense courses, citizen police academies, community projects and so much more,” said Mayor Bob DaSilva.

The center will also host after school educational programs as part of Gov. Dan McKee’s Education 365 initiative.
