EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — East Providence became the third Rhode Island community to sign Gov. Dan McKee’s Learn 365 RI Municipal Compact on Tuesday.

“It’s encouraging to see municipalities from across Rhode Island step up and join our strategy for increasing the educational outcomes of our students,” McKee said. “I thank Mayor DaSilva, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sandra Forand, and the entire City of East Providence for their continued partnership.”

Bristol and Warren have also committed to McKee’s education initiative.

“With the assistance from talented volunteers from Bristol and Warren, we are moving programs forward that fit in with the governor’s Learn365RI initiative,” Bristol Town Administrator Steven Contente said last week. “Working with the school district, we are looking to help mentor students with work based learning so that what is learned in the classroom can be seen and reinforced outside of the school.”

The goal of Learn 365 RI is to help the Ocean State reach Massachusetts levels in RICAS math and English Language Arts scores, student attendance, and FAFSA completion.
