PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – An East Providence man who killed his girlfriend during a fight has been sentenced to spend decades behind bars.

A Providence Superior Court judge sentenced 33-year-old Allen Hanson to serve 26 years at the ACI after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday.

Police say Hanson assaulted and killed his girlfriend Jennifer Silva at her home on Warren Avenue in May of 2017

Hanson originally told police Silva was hit by a car, but detectives later determined that was a lie.
